After School

Enhancing Students Academic Progress

CHCF’s After-School Programs work with children aged 6-13 and their families at two schools: P.S. 59, The Community School of Technology, and P.S./M.S. 279, both in the Bronx. CHCF After-School programs offer safe, developmentally appropriate activities that supplement school curricula and foster children’s wellbeing and academic success. Programs include a project-based STEM curriculum; homework and long-term project support; leadership skills and work on advocacy projects related to issues in the community; violence and substance abuse prevention; literacy and math academic reinforcement; and technology programming that fosters creative thinking and self-expression.

Academic Support

CHCF staff provide daily assistance with homework and special long-term assignments. The program uses the principles of positive youth development to help students feel safe, nurtured, and cared for by adult role models, as well as surrounded by peers that are taught to be caring and thoughtful citizens in their school and communities.

TechYouth

This component is designed to promote students’ creative expression through technology, engaging them in photography and video projects that encourage exploration of issues, and of their communities and neighborhoods.
