Rubby Perez & Orchestra
Rubby Perez was born in the Dominican Republic to a humble family. As a child, he planned on becoming a baseball player, but an automobile accident put an early end to his dreams of becoming an athlete. Instead, he turned to the church and the National Music Conservatory. He graduated with honors, and began his career in merengue alongside the celebrated artist Fernando Villalona. After a brief time, he struck out on his own, and his first hit, “Buscando tus besos” went platinum. The rest was history.
Perez performed opera at the National Theater of the Dominican Republic, and headlined merengue performances at Radio City Music Hall and Madison Square Garden. His albums have gone gold and platinum in Venezuela, and won him both “Orchestra of the Year” and “Merengue of the Year” at the Soberano Awards. His unique merengue tenor is often considered to be one of the highest voices in merengue.
At CHCF, we’re thrilled to have a living legend perform for us at our 40th Anniversary Gala, and hope you’ll join us to celebrate our Hispanic heritage on March 23rd. Feel free to review our COVID protocols for our venue before you arrive. We’ll see you there!
