FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
New York, N.Y., August 5, 2024 – The Committee for Hispanic Children & Families (CHCF) is proud to announce a generous grant of $200,000 from New York Assembly Member Yudelka Tapia. This funding will support the continuation of the comprehensive after-school program at P.S. 226 in the Bronx, benefiting hundreds of students and their families.
The announcement will be made at a special event where Assembly Member Tapia will present the check to CHCF CEO and President Ramon Peguero as well as program staff.
“I am committed to ensuring that our children have access to quality after-school programs that support their academic and personal growth,” Assembly Member Yudelka Tapia said. “This funding will help keep our students engaged, safe, and thriving. Investing in our youth is investing in the future of our community, and I am honored to support the incredible work CHCF does for our families.”
This investment in after school comes at a time when recent City budget cuts took $7 million away from after school funding across the five boroughs. Both the costs of programs and the need for programs are going up.
“For working families, after school programs aren’t optional – they’re absolutely essential,” CHCF President & CEO Ramon Peguero said. “We’re grateful to Assembly Member Tapia in making sure we protect the services that keep our young people safe and thriving.”
The program at P.S. 226 includes homework help, tutoring, STEM activities, arts and crafts, sports, and more. These services are just a part of the broad range of services CHCF provides to uplift and support working parents and families in the Bronx.
